Solid waste collected daily from our homes, called trash or Household Waste, is Municipal Solid Waste. It broadly comprises residential, commercial, and institutional waste. It includes garbage, food, dead animals, paper, plastics, textiles, leather, wood, glass, metals, and all other non-industrial solid waste. Fast-paced urbanisation leads to more trash in the alley. With Smart City Projects around the corner, MSW is becoming the talk of the town.
WORLDWIDE FIGURES FOR MSW GENERATION
The total amount of Municipal Solid Waste generated worldwide is 2.01 billion tons. The daily waste generated per person averages 0.74 kg and rises to 4.54 kg. This MSW will increase to 2.2 billion metric tons by 2025. India alone generates 133,760 tons of MSW daily. 33% of this waste is unmanageable, posing a grave environmental threat.
The filling up of landfills is already responsible for air, water, and soil pollution. It is affecting the environment and people in the worst possible way. Developed, developing, and even third-world nations are becoming the dumping grounds. They are becoming breathing zones for air-borne, water-borne, and soil-borne diseases. This is alarming and calls for a strict municipal solid waste management process. The only solution is to manage municipal solid waste sustainably and compact it to be transported from landfills. Shredding the waste and recycling it for energy recovery seems the finest solution.
Primary Shredding:
Untreated residential, commercial, and institutional waste is fed into the primary shredders via Diggers, Dozers, or conveyors. It aims to obtain sorted and homogeneous material.
Magnetic Separation of Waste:
The overband magnet extracts the ferrous scrap iron and iron metal from the shredder. The retrieved ferrous scrap material is further recycled to improve fuel quality.
Carrying out heavy fraction separation of waste:
Screening the waste will help extract the oversized waste. It goes into a heavy fraction process. Before getting ready for secondary shredding, the heavy-blown wind sifter feeds the waste. Light waste material is fed to the conveyor belt, and heavy waste is prepared for discharge.
Secondary Shredding of Waste Material:
This process is known as fine shredding.
There are no more ferrous materials, heavy fractions, or harmful foreign objects. Waste will be put into one or more secondary shredders to get the SRF or Solid Recovered Fuel. These shredders generate up to 40 metric tons of final premium fuel.
Fornnax Sr-Max Series and R-Max Series shredders are a unique solution for MSW. We provide these shredders to MSW recyclers and the cement industry. These high-performance shredders are best for mixed waste. It meets the demand of Refuse Derive Fuel Manufacturers and Municipal Waste Recyclers. The primary Sr-Max series shredders are solid and robust with a U-shaped structure. They are suitable for primary shredding and produce 150-400mm in size, depending on the number of knives configurations. The available options are 6, 8, 10, and 12 knives. More knives generate more fine material. The R-Max series shredders are strong enough to deal with the contamination of solid waste meant for producing alternative fuels like RDF/SRF. Depending on the blade and screen configuration, shredders are appropriate for secondary or fine shredding to produce sizes up to 30- 80mm. Fornnax’s high-capacity shredders are equipped with sturdy shafts and replaceable wear parts for shredding various materials found in MSW. Our shredders are guaranteed less downtime and easy maintenance, even when shredding the most challenging solid waste. Configurations available for Single-Shaft or Dual-Shaft shredders are as per your needs.
Shredded municipal solid waste can be an alternative energy source used as the RDF or Derived Fuel in various industries.
